This section uses content from Wowpedia.- Vrykul (pronounced ['vraɪ.kʊl]) are a race of fearsome half-giant warriors native to the Howling Fjord, located in southeastern Northrend. They are the progenitors of the human race, who were originally vrykul offspring that were born weak and deformed as a result of the Curse of Flesh. They were introduced in Wrath of the Lich King.
- While most vrykul dwelled in Northrend, thousands of years ago a group of them migrated to the sacred region of Stormheim near the center of Kalimdor in search of their true gods.
- Val'kyr are a type of ascended female vrykul. The original val'kyr are warriors of the Light who serve the Prime Designate Odyn by bringing the spirits of the glorious dead to his Halls of Valor. The val'kyr of the Scourge acted as the Lich King's agents in the spirit world and were described by Thoralius the Wise as "fearsome creatures made of pure nightmare" that "now stand watch over the realm of the elements". After the defeat of the Lich King, several val'kyr now serve the Forsaken under Sylvanas Windrunner.
- The kvaldir, or tuk-hariq (meaning "walkers of the fog" or "sons of the mist" in the tuskarr language), also known as sea vrykul, are the spirits of fearsome vrykul warriors or seafaring raiders who roam the seas raiding ships and coastal settlements.
