Heroes[edit | edit source]
Background[edit | edit source]
- Main article: Demon Hunter
Demon hunters, the disciples of Illidan Stormrage, uphold a dark legacy, one that frightens their allies and enemies alike. The Illidari embrace fel and chaotic magics—energies that have long threatened the world of Azeroth—believing them necessary to challenge the Burning Legion. Wielding the powers of demons they’ve slain, they develop demonic features that incite revulsion and dread in fellow elves.
Demon hunters made a pact, long ago, to fight against the forces of chaos using their own terrible powers against it. They ritually blind themselves in exchange for Spectral Sight that enables them to better sense their prey. This enhanced awareness, together with their great agility and magical prowess, makes demon hunters unpredictable adversaries. They wield demonically charged warblades in battle and call upon demonic energies to augment their formidable combat skills.
Hero Power[edit | edit source]
- Fight tooth and nail to vanquish any who dare stand against you.
Demon Claws, the class’s Hero Power, is a one mana-cost boost to the Demon Hunter’s Attack, designed around robust synergies with its class cards. The low mana cost of Demon Claws allows it to fit fluidly into curves, giving the Demon Hunter a unique gameplay feel.
The hero power can reliably allow the Demon Hunter to fill their Mana curve, and can be used alongside their many synergistic cards such as Blade Dance and Satyr Overseer. While most classes spend 2 mana on their hero power, the Demon Hunter only spends 1.
Replacement Hero Powers[edit | edit source]
Traits[edit | edit source]
Outcast[edit | edit source]
- Demon Hunters are no strangers to being strangers. Take advantage of the class-specific keyword Outcast to trigger additional effects when these cards are played from the left or right-most positions in your hand.
Hero Attacks[edit | edit source]
- Channel your rage through furious attacks against heroes and minions alike. Enable powerful effects that only trigger if the Demon Hunter has unleashed an attack this turn.
Demonic Allies[edit | edit source]
- Turning even the most dreadful enemies against their kind, the Demon Hunter can call upon gigantic demonic minions to wreak havoc on the board.
Strategy and gameplay[edit | edit source]
Playstyles[edit | edit source]
Token[edit | edit source]
- Feast of Souls - Main card draw
- Kolek from Demon Companion - The only area of effect attribute-incrementing card, and so far the cheapest one in Hearthstone
- Blood Herald - Big minion source
- Cycle of Hatred - Fantastic board clear that punishes your opponent if they leave either your small minions or theirs unchecked
- Your minions become considerable threats, forces your opponent to destroy them as soon as possible before you can let them die on your turn.
- Most of token minions have Rush, which makes synergies become easier to empower.
- Your token minions are extremely fragile and easily killable.
- Primarily relies on your minions dying on its turn to empower their synergy, which is very passive and requires your opponent to gain board control first.
- Lacks strong win conditions. While Blood Herald is a token-synergy card, its effect requires it to be in your hand, and not all the time it can be guaraanted to be drawn. Also, Token style lacks burst damage.
Big Demon[edit | edit source]
Soul Fragment[edit | edit source]
Deck types[edit | edit source]
Aggro[edit | edit source]
Midrange[edit | edit source]
Control[edit | edit source]
Counters[edit | edit source]
- Demon Hunters are susceptible to large minions (particularly those with Taunt) as they lack hard removal. Decks that can produce large minions repeatedly can create an insurmountable force.
- Since Demon Hunters attack with their hero for synergy, freezing their hero can often delay their plays.
- Demon Hunters are relatively reliant on their weapons, which extend the effect of their hero power and cards like Chaos Strike. Weapon-destruction effects can severely hamper them.
- Demon Hunters have great card draw, but difficulty generating cards. This makes them easy to beat in fatigue.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Demon Hunter is the first new playable class added to Hearthstone. While Death Knight was technically the first new class, it is only represented in a few uncollectible tokens.
- The Demon Hunter does not have a set of Classic cards. However, the extra five cards added in each Year of the Phoenix expansion is designed to provide parity with this. Blizzard intends to build them a Classic set partially out of expansion cards, once they figure out which effects they want to keep evergreen.
