Expand by adding examples[]

This wiki seems to be targeted to new players, who may appreciate helpful examples of e.g. direct damage effects. The article says "However, Taunts have no effect on spells, hero powers or other direct damage effects." and "Critically though, Taunt only affects melee combat: spells and ranged attacks are not affected by Taunt." I think the article would benefit from adding an explanation or example, like LegacyElven Archer's battlecry. -- Karol007 (talk) 20:21, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

We don't want to pander excessively to new players/add examples for every statement (links should be used instead), but in this case I agree. I've expanded the section and added some examples. -- Taohinton (talk) 17:07, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

soft Taunt?[]

Do we want a capital 'T' here? -- Karol007 (talk) 18:48, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

A tiny edit war[]

I'm OK with 'ranged', but maybe somebody can suggest a new term [1]? -- Karol007 (talk) 15:47, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

The term generally used is direct damage. --Beanchagbear (talk) 19:11, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
Eh, but I see the problem there. Direct damage encapsulates spells, hero powers, and the battlecry effects that is trying to be listed in that bullet. I would probably just reword it to note that direct damage can be used to bypass taunt. --Beanchagbear (talk) 19:15, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
I've made a compromise edit, since both versions were inaccurate: "All other types of effects are completely unaffected by Taunt, including spells, Hero Powers, and minion effects such as those of Elven Archer or Knife Juggler." Note that 'attacks' is irrelevant, it's the targeting that's important. It seems like the key distinction is that it comes from a minion, although there's always LegacyPerdition's Blade. To be fair though this isn't supposed to be a comprehensive list, since we've already said "all other types of effects". We could simplify it further (there's no real need to specify) or just recast it. Feel free to discuss/improve further.
As a note regarding that whole section: the aim is to make an intentionally simple and broken-down explanation of Taunt, for new players who are having a hard time understanding it. That's why things are spelt out in such small steps. The reason is noted at the end of the article's lead section. -- Taohinton (talk) 17:51, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

Obsidian Destroyer?[]

Seeing as the scarab is already on there as a Taunt minion, seems strange that the Obsidian Destroyer is not classed as a related card. There might be other examples in the list — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.151.196.160 (talkcontribs) 14:14, 9 December 2015‎

Obsidian Destroyer's already listed in the main "Cards which have or provide sources of Taunt" list. -- Taohinton (talk) 21:59, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

Taunt and Taunt-granting redundancy[]

Unfortunately LegacyMirror Image, LegacyFeral Spirit, LegacyMark of Nature, LegacyAncestral Spirit, and LegacyMark of the Wild all have Taunt as a core part of their card data, but with the new tags it would be more appropriate for them to not have Taunt at all and only be listed under "sources of Taunt", as similar cards are. It would probably be easiest to edit their data pages I guess, although it's usually nicer if we can find a solution that fits together with the auto-extracted data. - jerodast (talk) 08:39, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
