Patch nicknames[]

Mostly in adding references to individual card pages, as well as on Bugs, some editors have have been following patch numbers by parenthetical titles, such as (TGT patch), presumably to aid readers in immediately understanding the date or point at which a given change was made, etc. When the patch in question is a release patch (launching an expansion or adventure) the title is natural enough, but when it falls between content releases, it is not so easy to come up with a very effective title.

My suggestion would be to use dates for non-release patches, rather than inventing names ourselves. The reason is that while "GvG patch" quite obviously points to the moment at which GvG was added, "Mech War Tavern Brawl patch" is far less likely to successfully communicate to readers a specific point in time, because the Brawl was only around for a few days, because it may be repeated later (misleading readers), because many players don't particularly care about Tavern Brawls, and because the title is not the actual name of the Tavern Brawl in question ("Boom Bot vs. Annoy-o-Tron Tavern Brawl patch" is also a bit of a mouthful). Other patches may come with only a repeated Tavern Brawl occurring, preventing that from being used as an anchor to date the release, in which case even more inventive titles would need to be created.

Simply using the date - Patch 3.1.0.10357 (2015-09-29) - immediately conveys the date of the patch, without readers needing to remember when the related event occurred, or guess at what is being referenced. For release patches the default "[name of content] patch" seems fine, although even there date has its merits. The one down-side I can see is that the editor needs to write the correct date. This seems far preferable and easier than expecting every reader to do the same thing for themselves, though.

If no-one disagrees, I'd suggest changing the titles to match this kind of scheme. -- Taohinton (talk) 19:36, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

(Notably, this only started being a problem this patch, because nothing noteworthy happened this patch.) I'll see what everyone else in #hearthsim thinks, but for now I agree. --Patashu (talk) 01:12, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

install sizes[]

wondering if we should list the size of each of these installs, like the update which just dropped today was a 2.66 gb download. Tycio (talk) 18:38, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

Probably not. It’s not really useful information. Like what information would you gain from knowing that a patch from 3 years ago was 732mb? Not much. VGhost01 (talk) 20:09, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
