The resulting weapon, Shadow's Edge, must then be fed with the souls of 50 of the Lich King's servants in Icecrown Citadel before being infused with the powers of blood, frost, and the unholy. The wielder of Shadow's Edge is then tasked with retrieving Shadowfrost Shards, splinters that were scattered across the citadel when Arthas shattered the Frozen Throne, before Darion finally combines the different materials into Shadowmourne. Finally, Darion tasks the player, with Shadowmourne in hand, to end the reign of the Lich King.
