Refreshing Mana Crystals is the refilling of a player's empty Mana Crystals, thus restoring their mana. This effect is distinguished from gaining new Mana Crystals: refreshing the player's mana only refills existing Mana Crystals, and does not grant new ones.

  • Mana refreshing grants temporary Mana Crystals. Prior to Patch 18.2, mana refreshing granted filled Mana Crystals.
  • When the player has Overloaded Mana Crystals, the maximum amount of mana that can be refreshed is reduced by the number of Mana Crystals overloaded.
  • Effects that clear current pending Overloaded mana (Blackrock MountainLava Shock and Whispers of the Old GodsEternal Sentinel) are similar to a Mana Refresh effect, since the Overloaded Mana Crystals they unlock are refilled.

Refreshing the player's Mana Crystals acts to counter the mana expended in playing the card, effectively making the card free to play, provided the player has enough mana to play it in the first place.

Mana Refreshing can also be thought of as an alternate form of cost-reduction, as compared to the effects of Rise of ShadowsKalecgos or Ashes of OutlandKael'thas Sunstrider.

  • Scholomance Academy logo.pngPatch (2020-09-08): When refilling an existing mana crystal below 10 mana, you now receive a temporary mana crystal instead. This fixes an interaction where Scholomance AcademyForest Warden Omu would not grant the correct amount of mana.[1]
    • Example: The player has 6 Mana Crystals and plays a 6-mana Scholomance AcademyForest Warden Omu. Next, CoreThe Coin is used, gaining 1 temporary Mana Crystal, but Forest Warden Omu's effect will refresh only the remaining 5 empty Mana Crystals.
