Selecting a Puzzle.

The Puzzle Lab is a free single-player game mode added with the The Boomsday Project expansion. The mode became available on August 21, 2018, two weeks after the release of the expansion.

The Puzzle Lab is categorized into various puzzles that the player will have to solve:

• Lethal: Destroy the enemy hero in a single turn.
• Mirror: Create a board state in which both sides are perfect mirrors of one another, including minion positioning, attributes, etc.
• Board Clear: Clear the battlefield of all minions.
• Survival: Survive the enemy's Hero Power (by healing to full, plus some Armor in higher difficulties).

The difficulty of the puzzle is attributed to the vast number of possible permutations of card plays and card targets available, with some sequences leading very close to a solution where only one health number is missing from the board.

Trivia

The version of Power Word: Shield used in Dr. Boom's Lethal Puzzle #4 (Full Northshire) before Patch 20.0.0.77662.

• The hardest puzzle by far that most streamers on Twitch struggled with was the last board clear puzzle (the "Defile" puzzle).
• From March 26 to May 12, 2020, Astromancer Arwyn's Mirror Puzzle #6 (Divine Alignment) and Dr. Boom's Lethal Puzzle #4 (Full Northshire) were impossible to complete due to card changes with Holy Smite and Power Word: Shield caused by the priest rework patch on March 26. The priest rework also affected priest cards in many other puzzles, but those puzzles were still solvable, including Test Subject #362's Mirror Puzzle #8 (Three Odd Yetis) and Dr. Boom's Lethal Puzzle #3 (Never Go Full Northshire). A hotfix to correct this problem was originally slated for April 9. However, due to many unforeseen issues, the fix for Puzzle Labs was delayed until May 12, 2020.
  • The fix on May 12 made different versions of the changed Priest cards available in the various puzzles. For example, in Dr. Boom's Lethal Puzzle #3 (Never Go Full Northshire), Power Word: Shield was changed to cost 0 mana and to draw a card. For example, Holy Smite appeared in two different versions, one dealing 2 damage to a minion, and another dealing 3 damage to a minion.

Patch changes

• Patch 20.0.2.79904 (2021-04-13): Fixed a bug where some Boomsday puzzles were causing desync issues.
• Patch 17.2.0.47374 (2020-05-12): Fixed solvability issues caused by the Priest rework that occurred on March 26, 2020.
• Patch 12.0.0.25770 (2018-08-02): Added, fully released two weeks after the patch.
