Kobold Illusionist has always been a niche way to cheat out early expensive minions for a low cost. Usually these decks never took off, not even when Kobold Illusionist became a Wild-exclusive card. However, as years went by, the synergies surrounding Kobold Illusionist became more and more consistent, particularly thanks to cards like 
Sketchy Information. Then almost 5 years after being released, Kobold Illusionist was finally nerfed, due to suddenly becoming part of a dominating deck in Wild.
