Forbidden Shaping is an epic priest spell card, from the Whispers of the Old Gods set.

How to get

Forbidden Shaping can be obtained through Whispers of the Old Gods card packs, or through crafting.

Notes

This spell has two steps:
- First, it consumes all of your available mana;
- Then, it summons a random minion that costs that much, queuing and resolving triggers.

Strategy

Forbidden Shaping is flexible, usable both as an early game play (in the case that you don't draw normal early game cards) and as a late game threat, depending on draws and matchup. It should be kept in mind, however, that the minions summoned could be suboptimal, such as Faceless Shambler, or extremely harmful to the current board, like Doomsayer.

The best amount of mana to play Forbidden Shaping at, as of Whispers of the Old Gods, is 8. The reason is because there are no conditional minions available, like Acidmaw at 7, Alextrasza at 9. While you could also play it at 10 to get a 12/12 Deathwing or Deathwing, Dragonlord, you could also get a normal 8/8 Giant, a 7/7 Varian Wrynn, or, at worst, an unbuffed 6/6 C'Thun.

Used at 8 mana, most minions are average, like Fossilized Devilsaur, and the worst minions, The Boogeymonster, are still usable. Others such as Tirion Fordring or Ragnaros the Firelord provide excellent value.

The single biggest fallback, or biggest advantage, of playing Forbidden Shaping on 8 mana, is that you could get Anomalus, which can singlehandedly destroy your board, or completely ruin the opponent. Dealing 8 damage to all minions is almost always the same as Twisting Nether, but as a Deathrattle.

Lore

Aw, such a cute little blob of purple goop. So innocent and easily influenced by the ancient evils. So malleable. So flexible! Just spend a little mana (or a LOT), and the Forbidden Shaping morphs to become just the minion you need to make things slippery for your opponent.^[1]
