Strategy[edit | edit source]

Much like the Nerubian Egg, the Dragon Egg has little to no value when played by itself, but benefits when used in combination with other effects. Mages can damage Dragon Egg using Fireblast in order to summon a Black Whelp. Damaging effects like Wild Pyromancer, Whirlwind, Death's Bite and Bouncing Blade can be useful. Mad Bomber and Madder Bomber offer similar utility but are far less reliable. However, you should be careful when using these more than once, as they will also tend to kill any Whelps you have out already.

Attack-granting effects like Abusive Sergeant can allow the Egg to attack, thus suffering damage from combat. Effects like Cruel Taskmaster and Inner Rage can be especially useful by combining damage and Attack buffs. Taunt-granting effects like Defender of Argus and Sunfury Protector can force the opponent to attack the Egg. Health-granting effects like Divine Spirit and Armor Plating, and healing effects like Lesser Heal and Holy Nova can be useful for allowing the Egg to trade multiple times. Rampage is one of the best cards for this purpose, serving to both increase the number of times the Egg can be triggered and to allow it to attack and trigger its effect on its own.

Lore[edit | edit source]

In Blackrock Mountain[edit | edit source]

The corridors and chambers within Blackrock Mountain serve many purposes, ranging from laboratories, to barracks, to smithies. Among them is the Black Dragonflight’s rookery, where spiky eggs can be found from wall to wall. The funny thing about these dragon eggs is that they’re pressure sensitive. Brush up against one and they *pop* open like the world’s deadliest popcorn, spewing forth a bitey li’l dragon whelp. Enter one group of hapless adventurers with an impatient ally, and the legend of Leeroy Jenkins is born. Do you want whelps? Because dragon eggs are how you get whelps.[1]
