Cloneball! is a Tavern Brawl. It made its debut on June 8, 2016.

Additionally, Cloneball! was one of nine Tavern Brawls featured as part of the 100th Brawl, A Cavalcade of Brawls!, when its mechanics were used by the priest class. Also it a part of the 207th Brawl, The 207th Brawl Spectacular!.


This Tavern Brawl sees players doing battle with randomly constructed decks. Each deck is composed of seven randomly selected legendary minions. The unique spell Offensive Play (0-mana spell that reduces the cost of the next legendary minion the player plays, and all other copies of that card, by 3) is given to the player at the start of their first turn, with one other Offensive Play at turn 3 and another at turn 5.

Offensive Play


  • Legendaries may be neutral or match the hero's class.
  • The effect from Offensive Play lasts until the player plays a legendary minion card, and can stack multiple times.
  • It appears to be possible for a deck to contain multiple instances of the same legendary, resulting in more than 4 copies of a given card.[1][2][3]
  • Each player's deck consists of 28 cards. The Offensive Play is given at turns 1, 3 and 5.
  • Offensive Play does not reduce the cost of a transformed Whispers of the Old GodsShifter Zerus (unless he transforms into a Legendary).
  • If One Night in KarazhanPrince Malchezaar is one of the randomly selected legendaries, his effect will add 20 cards (5 for each instance) to the deck, resulting in a total of 48 starting cards.


  • Use Offensive Play as soon as you know you want your next minion discounted. If you delay, the opponent could put down LegacyLorewalker Cho or NaxxramasLoatheb, ruining your plan.
    • Alternatively, you can risk holding Offensive Plays to play it twice, and recover the board with a heavily discounted high-cost minion.
  • Kobolds & CatacombsZola the Gorgon is extremely powerful if you manage to start with at least two copies in your hand. Use Offensive Play then play both copies of Zola the Gorgon, copying the first with the second. Then, play the third Zola the Gorgon and copy any other Zola the Gorgon on the board. Keep doing this until you have a full board. This strategy is very useful for filling your side of the battlefield with minions on turn 1, and a full coordinated attack with all of them can deal 14 damage at maximum. As long as you still have at least one Zola the Gorgon on the board, you can continue summoning more with the one you still have in your hand. The only downside to this is that it is vulnerable to attacks that damage multiple characters. This can also be done with certain minions that create other minions such as Rise of ShadowsBarista Lynchen, although two Offensive Play cards must be used and it may most likely cause your hand to become full faster.
  • Rise of ShadowsArchmage Vargoth is another decent minion to rely on, as his ability can let you use Offensive Play an additional time, provided that you already played Offensive Play that turn, and reduce the cost of your Legendary minions again.
  • The Boomsday ProjectSN1P-SN4P can be incredibly powerful. While the Echo changes prevent him from going infinite, each Echo copy will only cost 1 mana, letting every individual SN1P-SN4P put +2/+3 times your current mana plus one on the field.


  • The fifth reprisal was the first randomized Tavern Brawl since the release of Ashes of Outland to allow players to choose Demon Hunter, likely due to the large number of neutral minions all classes receive, meaning their lower card pool wouldn't be a problem.
