A wyrm is a dragon that has reached senior age, typically at about 500 years. This explains the dragon's reading glasses and curmudgeonly attitude.
This blue dragon is clearly a fan of literature, and may be a visiting member of the Blue Dragonflight, researching magical matters at the tower. It is original to Hearthstone.

- Contrary to this card's flavor text, The Hobbit is not usually considered to be a tragedy, but it's easy to see how a Book Wyrm could make the mistake, as the story has a dragon who is killed by the protagonists. Similarly, Grendel is a retelling of the epic poem Beowulf, told from the perspective of the antagonist. Both versions of the story include the killing of a dragon, although the retelling appears to depict the character in a more sympathetic light as an "omniscient and bored character", a role to which the Book Wyrm can perhaps relate.
