Spell is a card type that appears in Battlegrounds. Just like in Constructed, spells can be played to resolve an effect stated on their card text, then vanish as a result.
Spell contributes a smaller role in Battlegrounds, as most spells can only be generated by other cards or the game mechanics. For example, the most unique spell in Battlegrounds, Battlegrounds/Triple Reward, can be generated after the player plays a Golden minion. There are cycles of spells, like Darkmoon Prize, can be either generated during the event or by Battlegrounds/Tickatus' Battlegrounds/Prize Wall.
