For other appearances of C'Thun, see C'Thun (disambiguation).

C'Thun is a hero that the player can pick in the Battlegrounds game mode.

Strategy

C'Thun has an atypical playstyle. His Hero Power increases in power the more times it is used, so the correct strategy for C'Thun is to use his Hero Power every turn (including the first turn). The implications of having to spend 2 Gold each turn and the buffs from the Hero Power form the basis of C'Thun's playstyle. Typically, C'Thun will have much fewer minions on the board than other heroes during the early game and midgame, compensating by using his Hero Power to strengthen what few minions he does have. Since C'Thun spends so much gold, he will usually not reach Tavern Tier 5 or 6 except during the latest parts of a game, nor does he usually need to.

C'Thun needs a token minion (Alleycat, Murloc Tidehunter, Sellemental) by the second turn, so that you can buy the minion, sell its token, and use the Hero Power. Without a token on turn 2, C'Thun is noticeably weaker, so C'Thun prefers having Beasts, Murlocs, and Elementals available.

The massive buffs C'Thun's Hero Power gives means he benefits greatly from minions that benefit from buffs, such as minions with Divine Shield (including the Divine Shield-giving Selfless Hero), Wildfire Elemental, and Cave Hydra. Because of this, C'Thun benefits greatly from Mechs, who have cards like Deflect-o-Bot, Pupbot, Annoy-o-Module, and Holy Mecherel. Spreading Divine Shield with Selfless Hero and Monstrous Macaw is also an option. Due to the randomness of C'Thun's buff, it is preferable to only have minions you want to keep long-term on the board; Battlecry minions, being weak, should be held in the hand or sold quickly.

Much of C'Thun's scaling comes from his Hero Power, and the Hero Power will often be sufficient enough scaling for C'Thun to land a place in the top 4. However, it is usually not enough to win first or second place, so C'Thun appreciates having minions that scale by themselves, like Iron Sensei and Lightfang Enforcer; these usually weak minions will be buffed by C'Thun's Hero Power, letting them hold their own.
