(→‎Notes: Battlecries going off before summon-triggered effects/secrets is a general rule, not unique to this card; we should not imply otherwise. Also, no need for 2 footnotes to the same reference in a single quick bullet point!)
m (→‎Notes: Again, we need not footnote every individual sentence of a paragraph, especially when the reference is the only one for the entire bullet point.)

Notes

  • Since Battlecries always activate before any summon-related secrets, Kezan Mystic can steal a secret such as LegacySnipe and LegacyMirror Entity without triggering it.[1]
  • If the randomly selected secret is the same as one the controlling player already has active, the Mystic will attempt to pick another. If there are no secrets the player does not already have active, the Mystic will instead destroy a random secret.[2]
  • The player who the secret was stolen from can mouse over it to see which secret it is, even after it has been stolen.

Strategy

This card is a useful counter to decks that use a lot of secrets. As well as providing a valuable secret in addition to the minion itself, the effect can also disrupt the opponent's strategy, and work around specific defences they had in place. For example, a hunter relying on a LegacyFreezing Trap to prevent an enraged LegacyGrommash Hellscream from dealing lethal damage to him can be undone by using Kezan Mystic to first steal the Trap. Alternatively, a player can use the Mystic to steal an LegacyIce Block, allowing them to deal fatal damage to an otherwise soon to be immune mage. The Kezan Mystic means that players cannot always rely on their secrets to take effect, and unlike LegacyFlare is available to all classes.

Kezan Mystic can be played immediately after killing a NaxxramasMad Scientist to ensure the opponent has a secret to steal. While this does not cause the opponent to have wasted mana playing the secret itself, much of the value of the Mad Scientist is wasted, and the player can almost guarantee the Kezan Mystic will earn its summoning cost. There is of course a chance that the Mad Scientist will fail to draw a secret, due to the opponent having no secrets left in their deck, although they may still have secrets remaining in their hand.

The Mystic is a decent body in itself, and is a reasonably mana-efficient play whichever secret is stolen. Advanced players can anticipate which secret the opponent currently has active, and wait until a particularly desirable one is available to steal; or even carefully trigger one of multiple secrets, in order to ensure that the correct one is stolen. The player can also take into account any secrets they already have active, as the Mystic will not steal duplicate secrets; this can similarly allow them to pick specific secrets when the opponent has more than one active.
